Volunteer with us

Due to the circumstances revolving around COVID-19, in-hospital volunteering is suspended for the time being. Our primary concern is ensuring the health and safety of both our volunteers, as well as the patients and staff of Shands Hospital. Regardless of the current circumstances, we are looking forward to our second semester of volunteering and we hope you are too!

In order to still fulfill our mission of serving the elderly population in our community, Solace has decided to partner with Meals on Wheels. We are planning on still having our volunteers engage with our patients on the ADTU unit via monthly socially-distant activities

Meals on Wheels:

Meals on Wheels is a meal-delivery organization dedicated to combating senior isolation and hunger. The meals are tailored to meet each individual’s medical needs and cultural preferences. This provides a cost-effective way to make sure our senior-citizens are getting the nutrients they need, while also providing them an uplifting smile and human contact to brighten their day.

Monthly Socially-Distant Activities:

As an alternative way to show the geriatric patients in our unit at Shands Hospital that we are here for them, we plan to engage in monthly activities as an organization. We will come up with safe, unique, creative ways to brighten the days of geriatric patients in a socially distant manner. We are very excited for what this semester holds and are confident that no matter the circumstance, our volunteers will deliver joy and hope to those who need it at this time!

Our Mindset: As a Solace volunteer, we entrust in you the privilege of giving back to a population who has given so much to us. You are given the opportunity to have direct patient interaction while you deliver an uplifting smile, joy, and laughter to those who need it most. Through arts and crafts, playing games, reading, or simply sharing precious time with patients in the geriatric unit, we can't wait for you to experience the joy of discovering that it truly is better to give than to receive.
